I've never quite seen the difference between a quality 2.5" SSD or M2 SSD and NVMe. Except for benchmarks and the occasional copy. So the real benefit to boot Win was mostly meaningless.
This was true until I purchased these two 1TB SSDs. I have one as a system one, the other for games (Steam etc).
I'm using on AM4 platform with Ryzen 7 5700x with Asus TUF Gaming B550-Plus motherboard.
The system disk is under the RTX 3070Ti graphics, yet it does not heat up. It achieves the claimed speeds, i.e. 7300MB/s read and 5600MB/s write. Max temperature in the test (Crystal Disk Mark) was 61°C. The drive is PCIe 4.0.
The second identical drive is listed as PCIe 3.0, so its values are generally half. Copying 3500MB/s and writing the same 3500MB/s. Max 57°C.
I already ordered a be quiet cooler just in case! MC1 M.2 SSD (competitors). Alternatively, these discs can be bought for 300, - CZK more expensive directly with a cooler.

With the external Axagon box, I couldn't get it to work - the controller froze and the box stayed lit, I had to put it in the other MB slot to move the OS. It's probably the fault of the external box, but everyone should know about it.
