Coronavirus pandemy has locked majority of people at home. They can go to work, to the doctor and do the most necessary purchases. At the same time, however, there have been growing concerns about our loved ones, with whom we cannot meet regularly due to lockdown. How to ensure that our grandparents are safe, how to find out that they are really honestly staying at home? So called SOS buttons and GPS locators could provide comfortable and practical solution. How they can help?
Small, but handy - you could say that about the SOS button. SOS button, usually a small, simple device that can be carried with you at all times (on the neck, on the wrist strap, in the pocket), which calls for help when pressed. Most of them automatically connect to the rescue line, the more advanced ones (or mobile phones equipped with an SOS button) send a text message or call predefined numbers, so it is not necessary to enter a phone number, dial, etc. The buttons can usually be hung around your neck, for example, and are always at hand when something happens. E. g. sudden nausea, a senior falls and fails to get up and so on.
SOS buttons tend to be part of some simple mobile phones for seniors. For example Evolveo EasyPhone FM, which, after pressing the large button on the back of the phone, starts dialing preset numbers and at the same time sends an SOS message to them. Unlike mere “alerts“ in the form of SOS buttons, phones have the advantage of two-way communication. It allows you to immediately contact the senior and find out his condition or verify situation.
Geolocators also offer new possibilities in the current situation. For example, they used to help you look for a suitcase at the airport, but now they can help look after household members. For example, children, who are not allowed to go to school, but they can go outdoors to see friends.
The main advantages of geolocators include:
Just place the geolocator in a bag, pocket and pair it with mobile phone. Then it is very easy to follow his movement on the map. Also setup of so called GEO-Fence is also very simple - that is, a kind of invisible fence. If the locator exceeds the perimeter defined in this way, it will immediately send a notification to your mobile phone.
The locators most often work on the basis of GPS and GMS technologies and include a SIM card. SIM card is either supplied directly by the manufacturer or must be purchased. When choosing locators, pay particular attention to parameters such as battery life and charging time, but also the durability of the entire device. It is definitely good for the given type of locator to have its own mobile application.
Very practical locators, in case you need a babysitter, are those that are directly designed for children. Children locators because they tend to look like smart watches. Some are smart enough to alert you if a child removes them from their hand. The possibility of an SOS button, which some types have at their disposal might also come handy.
Using GPS locators or SOS buttons - or a combination of them - can be an acceptable way to take care of our loved ones, with whom we cannot be in direct contact. Of course, personal contact will not replace anything. It is therefore advisable to make frequent telephone calls and maintain contact at least that way.
