The phone can be charged to 100% within 20 minutes (and can be set to a slower setting in case of battery condition saving)
Display quality and readability in the sun (only occasional overreaction to dimming the display when going from direct sunlight to shade)
It holds up well for its size and is relatively light
The wooden back can withstand quite a lot, so you don' t have to worry about using it without a case (it just spoils the rounded display a bit)
Standard photos, won' t offend, but other " Ultra"
Unlocking the screen without the slightest stutter (both via fingerprint and face)
It overheats quickly when charging wirelessly
The roundness of the display degrades the user' s touch response (if the area you want to click is in the roundness) - but that' s probably a general characteristic of this type of display
A battery with a smaller capacity, but it lasts the day and it is compensated by fast charging
During more demanding games, the processor overheats quite quickly
The edges of the rounded display are prone to accidental touch when holding the phone
The photos are standard, they won' t offend, but the other " Ultra" ones are just a bit further
I' m reviewing as a user switching from the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra to this new Edge 50 Ultra. Overall, I rate the phone as a step in the right direction, but there are a few compromises.
The phone fits well in the hand and is easy to use.
16GB of RAM for a more demanding user will definitely come in handy.
The photos have definitely improved compared to the older Motorola, but the post-processing would still need to catch up.
The readability of the display in light is passable.
Plastic cover in the package
Fast charging
SIM + eSIM - Useful when traveling abroad.
IP68 - should withstand rapid submersion.
Desktop mode mainly when connected directly to the monitor with a cable. I' m glad Motorola is one of the few manufacturers to keep it going.
Moto gestures!
It could be more Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 instead of 8s Gen 3 in this price tag.
I don' t quite like the new HelloUI. I prefer cleaner stock Android. (You can switch it in the settings. )
I haven' t found a function to limit the charging speed as there are times when I want to save battery life and use slower charging.
The protective glasses are hard to find because of the curved display.
I bought the phone as a gift for my dad, who always had and loves the Motorola brand. For the past eight years, he probably hasn' t had a phone from another manufacturer - he is switching from the motorola egde 30 pro to the new model motorola edge 50 ultra. He is said to remain loyal to the brand because of the addictive gestures that only Motorola phones can do, but also because of their unmistakable corporate logo - seemingly reminiscent of the silhouette of Batman: ) Here are his observations and comments.
the overall quality level of the phone - compared to the " edge 30 pro" model, a huge leap forward
totally unique and stunning design with wooden back
it is pleasant to work with, it is comfortable to hold in the hand and does not slip, the back is matte and very pleasant to the touch
beautiful display with fine resolution and high brightness
high performance, absolutely smooth operation, lightning fast responses, I didn' t experience any tearing or freezing
unrivaled storage size - you can have your entire data history stored on your phone offline
decent battery and charging speed (125 W charger is already a proper substation)
the base list price is seriously inadequately high
wooden back - after all, it is a natural material, palpable imperfections can be found in an otherwise precisely ground surface, the wooden back is apparently made of thin veneer (probably similar to disposable wooden cutlery from fast food), the knock sounds very hollow
the rounded edges of the display have their disadvantages - sometimes you activate something you don' t want by touching the side of the phone, moreover, some applications can' t work very well with such a display (moving your finger across the display distorts the image)
the phone rests mainly on the lower edge of the edging of the camera lenses, the lenses are large and, unlike earlier models, they are not so embedded in the edging - sooner or later the lenses risk being scratched
125W charging really heats up the phone a lot
! the biggest flaw in the beauty - during manipulation of the phone (especially violent movements, typically turning on the flashlight with a gesture) you can hear a clicking sound (almost like a rattle) from the body of the phone, I don' t know if this is a manufacturing defect or a normal manifestation of the product (perhaps some non-locked lenses or the gyroscope of the optical stabilization in the camera), but once you start to perceive it, it is quite unpleasant and spoils the overall impression.
I' m still testing it, but except for the packaging, which was really disappointing and I' m considering whether to put it on at all, because I think there' s a greater risk that the mibil will fall out of my hand with it than without, I' m satisfied.
design - fits well even in a small hand
great readability of the display (it' s my first flag, so I can only compare it with the mid-range phones from Xiaomi and Realme that I' ve had so far
intuitive operation
the charging speed is really fantastic, the percentages really increase before your eyes. Before you drink your coffee, you are fully charged: -)
storage size
so far maybe just the weight (the mobile phone itself feels a little heavier in my hand, but nothing major, but the charger is noticeable in the purse)
rather short cable at the charger (but I expected that)
the attached cover looks very coat-like to me - hard, slippery and unpleasant to the touch, prints are immediately visible on it
A very well made phone with a beautiful curved display, which for me is a huge advantage over the competition. Large operating memory and storage. A great working Android. I recommend it!
Huge satisfaction
Super photos
Beautiful videos
A brisk
Incredible 125W charging
The price decided compared to the Samsung S24 Ultra, and overall definitely a better choice
After my previous (positive) experience with the Edge 30 Ultra, I more or less knew what to expect. I was kind of " forced" to buy it because I lost my current phone, but I don' t regret it. The package includes a 125 W charger, a USB-C USB-C cable and a plastic cover for the back of the phone, but it didn' t fit well in my hand, so I bought a classic TPU case from FIXED. The phone comes with a foil attached from the factory, so there is no need to deal with it. With the exception of Google feed (see minuses), all the applications that I use by default work for me, and there are quite a few of them. In the reviews, someone wrote about problems with the VPN SW, but I didn' t have a problem with that. I use Wireguard for VPN and it works without any problems. The display is very good and the response of the system is very fast. Battery life subjectively feels less than the Edge 30 Ultra, but I haven' t done any extensive testing. I estimate that the phone can handle 2 days of use on a single charge, but that' s really just an estimate. The options for individual settings are quite extensive. Motorola has several of its applications in the system that allow changing the appearance and behavior of the system, but they are not annoying in any way and one does not practically know about them. The display does not have an always-on mode. I personally don' t use it, but it might bother someone. Overall, I rate the phone as very good and can recommend it.
Design. Motorola is probably the only manufacturer that still makes rounded side edges of the display and I personally like it. The leather back cover fits comfortably in the hand
Battery life + 125W charger in the package, which fully charges the phone in approx. 30 minutes.
Minimal number of annoying apps from the manufacturer, so practically pure Android
Android 14
Camera. Much better than the Edge 30 Ultra, 3x and 6x optical zoom and the ability to save photos in RAW format. It' s not a professional tool, but it' s OK for me for everyday use.
1 TB of storage. I use a variety of map and navigation apps that take up a lot of space and this fits the bill
SIM + eSIM
HW performance
Display up to 144 Hz (adjustable)
Price/performance
For some mysterious reason, opening Google feed when swiping from the left edge of the screen doesn' t work. Probably a bug in the Moto App launcher, which will probably be fixed in another update.
The light intensity sensor sometimes does not work as it should (i. e. it dims the brightness at the moment when it should increase it).
Somewhat " picky" about wireless chargers. It doesn' t work with my old Avacom charger, but it' s OK with Alza Power.
I am very satisfied with the phone, even though I have only used it for a short time. I don' t miss anything from the basic functions and I haven' t had anything malfunction yet. The Hello Moto add-on is decent, and I uninstalled the few games that were added to the system anyway. But against ballast from other brands, you basically don' t even register it. Still waiting for camera and video results. This topic requires more time.
But for me, I would definitely recommend it.
Excellent display and its brightness - I can see perfectly even in full sun
Good speakers
I didn' t register any chopping while traversing the system
I' m not a gamer, so it' s an excellent HW for me
I really enjoy the MOTO function
Giant storage
Fingerprint and face unlocking (both work very quickly)
125W charger included and back cover
The photos of the device look very good to me, but I haven' t had much time for more tests, e. g. at night
Really hilarious design
Brutal charging speed
Few system sounds to choose from (you can download and set whatever you want)
It does not have the protective film of the display from the factory
Probably an overly sensitive proximity sensor, but I' m still trying. Just sit down next to the device that is lying on the table and the display will light up (probably not a complete error, but it seems quite strange to me)
It' s just that anyone who knows Motorola knows and won' t trade it for anything. For those who don' t know, I recommend it because the moto functions are brilliant, I also have a SAMSUNG S24 Ultra and a MOTOROLA is more optimal, better performance, costs half as much, the only thing I still have to test are the differences in the camera. But where Samsung ends in charging speed, Motorola starts with Wireless 😅🤣
Fast charging
Moto features
Almost useless performance
Best price-performance ratio
Optimal interface
Currently, Alza does not have a protective glass, or rather, it is generally drying up
